Local Elections

Need your support for the May 2010 ElectionsIt has been a busy few months but we are gearing up for the challenge.

Abdal Ullah Election 2010 Campaign

I am strongly committed to creating a better Tower Hamlets for all who live, work and play here and this why I am seeking re-election as the Labour councillor for St Dunstan’s and Stepney Green ward on the May 6th 2010 local authority elections.  My track record and credentials will show that I have the energy, experience, commitment and vision to best serve the ward, the Labour party and the borough’s diverse communities.

During my time as councillor and lead member I have worked on engaging the disenfranchised and most vulnerable in our communities and have developed unique networks of support across business, community groups, third sector organisations, religious groups and constituents across the ward and borough.

Tower Hamlets is the third most deprived borough in the country with areas of deprivation in every part of the borough. My extensive networks across the community have gained me an unparalleled level of grassroots support and trust. I have been encouraged by the strong representations I have received from various sections of the community, thank you, and I look forward to working together throughout the election campaign and beyond.

I am working with local residents to address key issues on the housing estates and have a track record of delivering on issues such as health, education, transport, community safety, housing, preventing extremism and the environment.

I have been privileged to serve the borough as lead member for cleaner, safer greener since 2006. During the past four years I spearheaded policies which have improved community policing, increased recycling, enhanced services for the young, elderly and disabled and relieved local congestion.

Examples of some success are:

I have extensive experience with a number of London’s strategic bodies, currently a Non Executive Director of Bart’s and the London NHS Trust, current Deputy Chair of Crime and Public Protection Forum at the London Council, and a former member of the Metropolitan Police Authority and Chair of the City of London Police Independent Advisory Committee. I am currently a Trustee of Thames Water Trust which is distributing £5 million to the Londoners. I was the convenor of the Home Office task group for Muslim youth in the aftermath of the 7th July 2005 London bomb attacks, and have extensive involvement with many London voluntary organisations and am a trustee of the Centre of the Cell Ltd.

My professional career experience includes working for one of the UK’s top consulting firm, where I worked across government departments on various projects, and working in the health, education and community development sectors.
As an elected official, I am committed to being accessible to my constituents, hosting regular surgeries and walkabouts. My priority would remain maintaining communication and accessibility and building new relationships. I will ensure that I remain fully accountable to my constituents and the Labour Party.

Thank you for your support.
